  "Later, they saw what they assumed was the same whale, bubble-cloud   feeding. From below, it circled, exhaling  a fine mist of bubbles that rose to the top   forming a kind of columnar net in which  confused sand lances, unaware they  could swim through the wall of bubbles, were trapped. The whale rose up through the column, huge mouth agape, sucking in hundreds of the long, thin, undulating fish as scavenging seagulls squalled about its mouth."
